DogAge — DogAge Helps You Make Informed Dog Health Care Choices.
Just as RealAge motivates people to make healthy lifestyle choices for themselves, DogAge motivates dog owners to make
healthy choices for their dogs. DogAge is the biological age of your dog, measured in people years. Based on breed,
weight, lifestyle, and behavior, the DogAge Test measures whether your dog is younger or older than the average
dog of the same breed.

NetVet — NetVet & the Electronic Zoo originated from
the vivid imagination and late night web-surfing of Dr. Ken Boschert a Veterinarian at Washington University's
Division of Comparative Medicine, located in St. Louis, Missouri. Among this server's web pages are numerous
views of veterinary medical and animal resources available on the Internet and beyond. See what's new and be
sure to visit this week's best animal-related Web site, the "Pick of the Litter."

The Pet Center — Created by veterinarians under the
direction of Dr. T. J. Dunn, all articles are presented in non-medical terms, just as if the veterinarian was
speaking to you personally in a real Exam Room. There are lots of photos, too, many of which were taken during
actual animal hospital procedures. If you are a little squeamish, better stay out of the Surgery Room!

Preventative dog health care procedures are recommended by veterinarians to be completed on a
regular yearly basis. By implementing good preventative dog health care practices, dog owners will
increase their dog's chances of a healthier and longer life. In addition, owners will have a better
chance of minimizing the veterinary expenses because preventative health checks may identify or protect
the canine from problems.
Preventative dog health care should include a regimen involving good nutrition, exercise, behavior training,
parasite control, neutering, and annual vaccination-health check ups. This combination of good preventative
dog health care becomes even more pronounced as your pet ages and enters the senior years of life.
Typical preventative vaccines recommended for dogs throughout the stages of his or her life include,
but are not limited to the following:
- Distemper causes a fatal disease that starts with respiratory signs and ultimately causes seizures and death.
- Kennel cough viruses are highly infectious and cause disease in the major bronchi and trachea resulting in a loud, dry, nonproductive cough.
- Leptospirosis causes serious disease in the kidneys and liver of dogs. The disease is uncommon in dogs and is primarily a large animal disease.
- Parvovirus causes serious dehydration from profuse vomiting and bloody diarrhea often resulting in death even with intravenous support. Severe destruction of white blood cells severely compromises the dog’s immune system.
- Lymes disease causes short-term serious arthritis and lethargy.
- Corona virus causes minor diarrhea in puppies that can add to the severity of a concurrent infection with parvovirus.
- Rabies is always fatal and provides serious potential public health problems.
Dogs should also be checked and treated for internal parasites. Monthly roundworms and heartworms are
available to battle against these intestinal parasites. In addition, the dog body should be routinely
groomed and cleaned to prevent fleas and ticks.
